How it works

Three steps, no magic.

STEP 1Your risk

1% of a $50,000 account is $500.

$500
STEP 2Risk per unit

Entry to stop, in dollars, for one contract, share, lot or coin.

15 pts × $2 = $30
STEP 3Your size

Your risk ÷ risk per unit, rounded down so you never risk more.

Questions

Quick answers.

How much should I risk on one trade?+
Many traders keep it between 0.5% and 2% of the account: an amount they could lose ten times in a row and still trade calmly. That part is your call.
Why does it round down?+
So the trade never risks more than you allowed. The bar shows how much of your allowance the size uses.
My size comes out at zero.+
Your stop is too wide for your risk on one contract. A micro contract (MNQ for NQ, MES for ES) is a tenth of the size, and the calculator suggests it when it fits.
How are forex lots counted?+
A standard lot is 100,000 units. For pairs priced in dollars (EUR/USD) a 0.0001 move on one lot is $10; for pairs with the dollar first (USD/JPY) the calculator divides by the price.
