Revenge trading,
and how to spot it.
Jumping back in right after a loss to win the money back. It’s one of the costliest habits in trading, and one of the easiest to see in your own trades.
A loss stings, and the urge is to make it back now. The next trade comes too fast, often bigger and without a real setup. In your trade history it shows as a new entry a minute or two after a losing exit.
You lose $180 on a stop-out at 10:02. At 10:03 you’re back in with twice the size, no setup, and lose $260. Two trades, one decision, $440 gone.
- A trade opened within 2 minutes of a loss over $50 is flagged as a “Revenge trade”.
- In again less than a minute after any exit is an “Impulsive entry”.
- In again within 15 minutes of a second loss in a row is “Kept going after losses”.
